The Fiction Critique Group meets 6:30 p.m. every Wednesday at Lenhart’s Restaurant in Clifton. Special Note: As our Wednesday night group's numbers have swollen and the room we meet in has stayed very close to the same size, CWP is now hosting a second Critique Group on Thursday night. Please email Ryck if you're interested in attending either night. Getting back to the general info... ...Logistically speaking, we have nearly 40 on-again-off-again members. A typical meeting, though, will see 12-16 regulars show up, order beers and grilled cheese sandwiches, then critique five or so manuscripts between mouthfuls. While some of us have published regularly through the years, we also support many new and aspiring authors. And we're writing a little bit of everything these days, from Science Fiction to Romance, from Flash Fiction to Short Stories and Novels. Our writing submissions typically run between 2,000-5,000 words. Be forewarned, despite what you may have heard or read elsewhere on this site, the Fiction Group is a strict and straight-laced bunch, no-nonsense hardasses really, and I'm not just saying that because my prize mss got brutalized last week. These guys have lots and lots of incomprehensible RULES, which are imposed by Mary the Enforcer, who likes to bring an egg timer, an air horn, and a gavel (which serves multiple purposes and, not surprisingly, returns to her hand when she throws it). Some of our critiquers have extremely melodious voices, just ask'em. But really, the only hard and fast rule we have is that we treat each other with honesty and respect. Oh, and as sort of a "right of passage" into the group, all first-timers will buy Ryck's wine at their first meeting. If there's more than one newcomer, they split the cost, so it really behooves you to bring a friend.
